COURSE DESCRIPTION:

A study of the historical development o= f the Church from the Reformation to the Modern Period. Special attention will be placed= on the growth of the Church, major theological and institutional issues, and persons in context.

A         =    Indicates the student has significantly exceeded the minimum expectations f= or the assignment. The student has consulted the relevant scholars and h= as consistently entered into dialogue with these scholars, offering his/her critique of the relevant sources. All the required parts of the assignment are present, and the written presentation is consistently above average, with no errors in spelling or grammar.

B         =    Indicates the student has exceeded the minimum expectations for the assignment. The student has consulted relevant scholars and has enter= ed into dialogue with most of them, offering his/her critique of the sources. An incomplete is given only when extraordinary circumstances (extended illness, death, in the family, etc.) prevent the student from completing all the assignments before the end of the semester. The for= mat of this course will follow a weekly cycle of online class participation. This segment includes Reading<= /st1:City>, Reflective Questions and Answers. There will be two Research/Position paper= s, the first will be six pages and the second will be ten pages, two Reflective Question Sessions, a Mid-Term Examination and a Final Examination.

REFLECTIVE QUESTIONS. Each student will be required to provide a one to two pages answer to each of the Reflective Questions. These Reflective Question Answers are more in line with conversational writ= ing than formal papers. Students are encouraged to write their answers ou= t in a separate file before posting, so that they are available for possible lat= er use. The first Reflective Question will be given on February 9, 2009. The due date is February 22, 2009. The second Reflective Questi= on will be given on April 6, 2009. The due date is April 26, 2009.    The weight of the Reflective Question Answer(s) is = 20% of the grade.

NEW CYCLE. A new weekly cycle begins on Monday evening with the posting of the next assignment.

TWO POSITION/RESEARCH PAPERS

A MID-TERM EXAMINATION Weight: 20% of the final grade. The Mid-Term Examination will be posted on February 23, 2009 and the due date is March 1, 2009.

A FINAL EXAMINATION Weight: 20% of the final grade. The Final Examination will be posted on April 27, 2009 and the Final Examination is d= ue on May 4, 2009.

All assignments will integrate the theory and practice of ministry. In addition, the academic work will focus on ministry in a global context.

This course will utilize experiences, poetry, prose, and other relevant literatu= re to help demonstrate an understanding of Church History.

Students are expected to complete their work in the time frame of the course. = No work will be accepted after the close of the course. Under normal circumstances incompletes are not given.

Multiple submission of a work is unacceptable. That is to say, please do not submit a paper that you have used in a previous course.
